Importance of Recording Knowledge
Orally exchanged information can be lost with the years. People can forget the information. Knowledge also remains with a limited number of people.
If the information is written or recorded in some way then it has a better chance to reach to many people and also it will stay intact over the years. So recording any information is important. People can read or see this recorded information any time anywhere.

What is a Script?
A systematic collection of signs and symbols is called a script. Some scripts have pictorial symbols and others have alphabets. These signs and symbols are given some sounds. These sounds make the language.

Roman alphabets have 26 letters – A to Z.

The Invention of the Printing
The invention of printing was a revolutionary idea as it made it possible to print books. Several copies could be printed by some printing techniques. More and more books reached the people and knowledge was transferred.
Block Printing | Printing was developed in China about 2000 years ago. The Chinese cut designs on flat blocks of wood. 🢃 The ink was applied to the blocks. 🢃 Blocks were pressed on paper. |
Typesetting Printing | In 1443, Johann Gutenberg used several small metal molds of letters for printing in Germany. Molds containing letters were created. (These molds are called types) 🢃 These molds were arranged to form words, sentences, and paragraphs. (This arrangement is called typesetting) 🢃 Typesets were applied with links and pressed on the paper to get impressions. |
Invention of Paper

Ancient Egyptians used the plant stem (Papyrus) to make papers about 4000 years ago. Modern paper was first used by China about 1900 years ago.
