There are different sizes of lands in rural areas that are used for agriculture. A bund is a small boundary that separates two pieces of land. Some farmers have small farms and some have big farms. Some farmers are poor and some are rich and powerful.

In case of any dispute, people take the help of the Police.

Police Station
Every Police Station has an area that comes under its control. All the people in that area register reports in their local Police Stations.
Station House Officer (SHO) is generally in charge of a police station.
First Information Report (FIR) is registered in the Police Station and the Police take necessary actions.

Responsibilities of a Police Station
The main responsibility of the Police is to maintain the law and order in their areas.
The Police enquires, investigates, and takes necessary action on the cases in their areas.

In case of land disputes, farmers can use a copy of their records as proof. They can get these copies from the office of Patwari or Tehsildar.
All the records of lands are maintained by an appointed government official known as Patwari.

Responsibilities of a Patwari
>> Measuring and keeping land records.
>> Maintaining and updating land records.
>> Organising the revenue collection.
>> Providing information to Government about the crops grown in the area.

Types of Information kept by a Patwari
>> Name and address of the owner
>> Location of the land
>> Area of land
>> Area of cultivation
>> Types of crops
>> Availability of Wells, trees, etc

Responsibilities of a Tehsildar
Tehsildar is also known as Revenue Officer who works at the Block level.
Tehsildar is responsible for:
>> Supervising the work of a Patwari.
>> Hearing the land disputes.
>> Issuing the caste certificates to students.
>> Issuing copies of land records to farmers.

Hindu Succession Amendment Act, 2005

According to the Hindu Succession Amendment Act. 2005, After the death of a person his property is equally divided among his sons, daughters, and his wife. This law is applicable to all the territories of India.
