Answer
: Scale, Direction, Symbol, Color, Title, Legend etc.

(c) What do you mean by the term ‘the scale of the map’?
Answer:
Scale of a map is the ratio between the distance on the map and the actual distance on the ground.
Ratio Scale = Distance on map/Distance on ground

(d) How are maps more helpful than a globe?
Answer:
Maps are more informative than a globe. A globe can be useful when we want to study the earth as a whole. But when we want to study only a part of the earth, then a map is more useful.

(e) Distinguish between a map and a plan.
Answer:

A map can be used to study a part of the Earth or the full Earth.A Plan is detailed drawing of a small area.

A thematic map provides more details.

(g) How do symbols help in reading maps?
Answer:
Symbols are an important elements of a map. They give a lot of information in a limited space. With the use of symbols maps can be drawn easily and are simple to read. Even if we don’t know the language of an area and therefore cannot ask someone for directions. We can collect information from maps with the help of symbols.
