An MLA is an elected representative who is elected from a constituency. The elected MLA represents his/her constituency.

In the elections, whoever gets the maximum votes from a constituency, becomes the MLA of that constituency.

2. How did some MLAs become Ministers? Explain.

When more than half the number (majority) of MLAs are coming to a political party then the political party forms the government. The party that forms the government is called the ruling party.
Remaining MLAs from other parties and independent MLAs become part of the opposition.

>The ruling party elects its leader who becomes the Chief Minister as the head of the government.
>The Chief Minister then selects other MLAs as ministers. The group of ministers is responsible for their respective portfolios. This group of ministers is called the cabinet or the council of ministers.
