A state is divided into several regions on the basis of population. Such regions are called constituencies.
One person is elected from every constituency. The elected person represents that constituency.

The elected person is called a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

In the elections, whoever gets the maximum votes from a constituency, becomes the MLA of that constituency.

How did some MLAs become Ministers? Explain.

When more than half the number (majority) of MLAs are coming to a political party then the political party forms the government. The party that forms the government is called the ruling party.
Remaining MLAs from other parties and independent MLAs become part of the opposition.

The ruling party elects its leader who becomes the Chief Minister as the head of the government. The Chief Minister then selects other MLAs as ministers. The group of ministers is responsible for their respective portfolios. This group of ministers is called the cabinet or the council of ministers.

Why should the decisions taken by the Chief Minister and other ministers be debated in the Legislative Assembly?

The decisions should be debated and discussed in the Legislative Assembly to make sure that the decisions are in the interests of the people. All the positive and negative points should be discussed and debated in the legislative assembly.
