Answer: Sa’adat Khan held the combined offices of subadari, diwani and faujdari.
He was responsible for managing the political, financial and military affairs of the province of Awadh.
5. Why did the Nawab of Awadh and Bengal try to do away with the jagirdari system?
Answer: The Nawabs of Awadh and Bengal tried to do away with the jagirdari system in order to reduce the influence of the Mughals in their states.
They wanted to control the Jagirdari system and they are also suspicious of the existing revenue system.
6. How were the Sikhs organised in the eighteenth century?
Answer: After the Death of Guru Gobind Singh in1708, Banda Bahadur led the revolt against the Mughals. But Banda Bahadur was captured in 1715 and was executed in 1716.
In the 18th century, the Sikhs were organised into a number of bands called jathas. Later these bands were called Misls. Their combined army was known Grand Army (Dal Khalsa). These sikh groups continuously resisted against the Mughals and then against Ahmad Shah Abdali.
At the end of the 18th Maharaj Ranjit Singh united group of sikh rulers and created a Sikh Kingdom with capital Lahore.

Answer: The Marathas wanted to expand beyond the Deccan in order to decrease the Mughal influence.
Marathas were ambitious too as they wanted to expand their domination and control more wealth.

Answer:
During the 18th century, merchants and bankers were more influential as they provided loan opportunities to Zamindar and became important part of the revenue system. Their political position was strong.
But today, we have democratic government system and people are educated. People can borrow money from banks which are controlled by the Government. So, the influence of bankers or merchants is very less in the present time.

Answer:
(1) In the eighteenth century, the government system was monarchhial where people had less freedom and today we have democratic system and we have our fundamental rights.
(2) In the 18th century, there was no feeling of nationalism, we would have only cared for regional states. Whereas today we are part of one nation and we care for the whole nation and life is influenced by other states of the nation as well.
